Inaugurated in 1928, the Chantaco golf course has just reopened its entire course, a year ahead of schedule. An ambitious project led by British architect Stuart Halett, a specialist in Harry Colt-designed courses. A challenge for demanding members and visitors alike, and a pleasure for amateurs.

A 4 million euro action plan

A 4 million euro investment plan has been mobilized with the aim of encouraging play whatever the season, enhancing the quality of the course with a constant focus on respect for the environment, and reinforcing the region's appeal by offering a unique playing environment.

The work involved reconfiguring numerous holes, draining greens and fairways, renovating tees and greens (2, 3, 10 and 14) and adding new bunkers to challenge the appetite of seasoned players. Finally, the creation of asphalt paths means that golf carts can be used all year round.

At the driving range, a new tee line with 28 outdoor posts and targets on synthetic greens have been installed for training facing the Rhune.

A vast renovation project led by Jean-Marie Lacoste, who took over as golf president in 2018, assisted by Stéphane Kerjean as manager, with the involvement of the golf teams.

At a crucial time, with summers getting hotter and hotter, as we experienced again this year, Chantaco has equipped itself with a system enabling total water autonomy. An investment that complements the management's policy in favor of economic development that respects nature and is sustainable. This approach is in line with the course maintenance plans, which are based on a reasoned and limited use of phytosanitary products in favor of eco-responsible methods.

The Clubhouse

The Club-House has been restored to its original 1930s Art Deco hues and spirit. The restaurant, lounge and lobby have been renovated and modernized. In January 2019, a new restaurateur arrived in this new setting, developing inventive market cuisine using local produce at tight prices.

Website and online reservations

The redesigned website allows members and visitors to book online.

Chantaco is also part of Golf Pass Côte Basque et Landes.

The President, Jean-Marie Lacoste, wants Chantaco to once again become an essential stopover in the Basque Country, combining tradition and novelty, perpetuating family and sporting values and modernizing infrastructures, but also a friendly place open to all, young and old, beginners and experienced golfers alike. Chantaco's aim is to play an active role in the appeal of the Basque Country and contribute to tourism and the local economy.

True to its traditions of hospitality and openness, Chantaco invites golf enthusiasts and lovers of the game to discover a demanding yet playful course nestled in the heart of a forest on the outward journey and more open on the return.

The elite of women's golf came to test themselves on the new course last August in preparation for the resumption of competition.

The Golf de Chantaco, host of the Lacoste Ladies Open de France from 2012 to 2017 and a historic land of Champions, celebrated its reopening by welcoming seven French players from the Ladies European Tour from August 5 to 7.Camille Chevalier, Agathe Sauzon, Valentine Derrey, Emma Gréchi, Isabelle Boineau, Manon Giladi, Anne-Charlotte Mora) for three days of preparation before the British Open in Scotland and the restart of the Ladies European Tour in the Czech Republic.

It was an opportunity for our top French players to test themselves against the new Chantaco and discover the recent improvements.
