A golf course under the trade winds: Exclusiv Golf Green Pearl Morea in French Polynesia.
**French Polynesia, with its 118 islands, is considered a true paradise on earth...and with good reason!
This overseas country is located in the South Pacific Ocean, some 16,000 km from France. Its 5 archipelagos offer a wealth of different cultures, landscapes and peoples to meet. Polynesia is overflowing with riches, and you'll certainly run out of time to discover them all.
The diversity of Polynesia's islands caters for all types of visitor, from the avid hiker to the passionate diver to the unconditional follower of lazing on white sandy beaches.
With an expanse of water the size of Europe, Polynesia boasts some of the world's most beautiful turquoise-blue lagoons, home to all types of hotel establishments, from family guesthouses to luxury hotels.
Just 7 minutes by plane from Tahiti (35 minutes by ferry), Moorea is a land of legends and history. Tradition has it that Moorea was the dorsal fin of the great fish Tahiti. The story goes that the god Hiro, coveting its most beautiful site, Mount Rotui, where the spirits of the dead stop off on their way to their final destination, wanted to steal it one night and take it home to Raiatea. But the Pai warrior put him to flight by throwing his spear through the island's other famous mountain, Moua Puta, the "pierced mountain", whose hole can still be seen today. The sculptural beauty of Cook Bay, bordered by a chain of chiselled peaks including the pretty Rotui, and imitated by the twin Opunohu Bay, whose dark waters reflect the steep mountains, continues to attract artists, aesthetes and philosophers from all over the world.
Formerly named Aimeo (or Eimeo), a high priest gave Moorea its name after having a dream depicting a large, beautiful yellow lizard.
An important stronghold of the Pomare royal family, Moorea was the focal point for the development of Protestantism, with the printing of the first Tahitian Bible in the 19th century.
Landscapes and history are not the only assets of this island, which is also renowned for its relaxed lifestyle and the quality of its pineapples. Moorea's multitude of white-sand beaches, diverse coral reefs and rich underwater fauna make it an ideal destination.

Moorea Green Pearl golf course
Tahiti and Moorea, 16,000 km from France, are the furthest golf courses you can find from our continent. And if you're a globe-trotting golfer looking for spectacular scenery and a change of scenery, this is the kind of trip you hope to make at least once in your life.
It's also the ideal destination for golf at any time of year, provided you're prepared for a plane journey lasting almost 24 hours. With a one-hour stopover in Los Angeles, it takes a total of 24 hours to reach Papeete from Paris. On arrival, you're immediately immersed in the Polynesian world, with its pretty vahines, necklaces of tiare flowers, lush vegetation and black basalt mountains on the horizon.
Moorea is 30 minutes from Papeete (Tahiti) by ferry, even less if you take the small plane that links the two islands, and as the flight remains at a fairly low attitude you'll have every chance of flying over the sea turtles that swim between the two islands.
Whatever the mode of transport, this short trip is dazzling, from limpid lagoons to sharp, black basalt peaks.
Located on the island of Moorea, opposite Tahiti, the 18-hole, 6002-meter, par 70 course is a jewel nestled in an exceptional natural environment, between lagoon, lakes, mountains and coconut palms! and on this golf course, amidst bougainvillea and hibiscus, the full significance of this nickname is clear to see. Since the start of the year, when Socredo took over, numerous investments have been made in the course and facilities, and will be continued in 2017. While waiting for an on-site hotel to open in 2019, two hotels (among others) are recommended for golfers: Ideally situated between two bays, the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa juts majestically out over the pristine waters of the crystal-clear turquoise lagoon. The resort features bungalows decorated in contemporary Polynesian style, with splendid views of the beach or gardens from the private terrace. Infinity pool. Don't miss the Moorea Lagoon Spa, a veritable oasis of relaxation. The Manava Beach Resort & Spa Moorea, located on the coastal edge of the village of Maharepa, offers an idyllic setting, just a stone's throw from boutiques, restaurants and a small shopping center. Conveniently located between majestic Cook Bay and the Moorea Green Pearl Golf Course, it's 10 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from the ferry dock. The Atimaono golf course is a good hour's drive from Papeete. Located on the west side of the island, the course is set amidst tropical vegetation, between sea and mountains. The first impression on arriving at this course is that of being at the end of the world, far from the hustle and bustle of Papeete. And, last but not least, how could we fail to spare a thought for Tané Exalt Hopu, golf instructor at Atimaono, who went on to teach at the Laval golf course from 1989 until his death in 2014?Exalt contributed enormously to the development of the Polynesian league and golfing infrastructure in Tahiti, even returning from 2003 to 2008 to manage the EAGDA (Etablissement d'Aménagement et de Gestion du Domaine d'Atimaono) for the Polynesian government, including other projects such as the famous Gauguin Museum. Exalt was wisdom and generosity incarnate, a good and wholesome man. Of course, when you live on the European continent, you don't just decide one fine morning "I'm going to play golf in Polynesia". PRACTICAL INFORMATION Time difference: -11 hours in winter, -12 hours in summer Jean-Luc DUCLOS The post Golfs de Tahiti appeared first on Golf Oxygène, the golf magazine for the Nouvelle Aquitaine region.
This 6,000-metre course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, has been open since 2007.
On the outward leg, the course winds its way through tropical vegetation and bodies of water up to hole 9, with holes 7 and 8 passing alongside one of Polynesia's most beautiful lagoons, with a view of the island of Tahiti in the distance.
Built on the slopes of an ancient volcano, the steep slopes offer exceptional panoramic views between holes 10 and 17, and it's hard to concentrate on your golf game, such is the spellbinding scenery.
Moorea is nicknamed "the island of flowers"
Hole 18 alone is a fabulous sight, but it's also a golfing challenge, with water to pass over at the tee, which is very inviting, just as it is around the green... Your card may suffer unfortunate consequences...
When Jack Nicklaus designed this course, he must have felt that the slopes and water were not enough to make it difficult enough, so he punctuated it with numerous bunkers and pretty, well-turned greens with complicated, hard-to-grasp slopes.
Because of its steepness, the course is very physical, and even if you've hired a buggy, its use is limited to the fairways. After the course, the swimming pool and jacuzzi offer you a well-deserved moment of relaxation and recuperation, and it's hard to leave as the place is so enchanting.
Although it experienced some financial difficulties before being taken over by Banque Polynésienne Socredo, the course is remarkably well maintained and certainly offers some of the finest golf holes in the world.
On-site: a renovated, welcoming and functional clubhouse offering all the services expected by golfers; the Le Mulligan bar-restaurant, planted in a completely refurbished setting for greater comfort. Golf academy, driving range on water, pro-shop, equipment hire, buggies, shuttle for transfers complete the offer.
By signing a partnership with UGOLF (formerly NGF), a subsidiary of the Duval Group, the owner hopes, in addition to professionalizing the operation, to make "Exclusiv Golf de Moorea Green Pearl" an exceptional golf course, meeting the criteria of an internationally renowned course.
After New Caledonia, UGOLF is thus strengthening its presence in the Pacific, and intends to pursue its development in the region. Finally, UGOLF is asserting its ambitions beyond its borders and extending its international presence.**

Atimaono golf course in Tahiti
Calm prevails amidst breadfruit, lemon and flamboyant trees. Built in 1970 on a former cotton plantation by architect Robert Baldock, and affiliated to the French Golf Federation, the Olivier Bréaud International Golf Course hosts the annual Tahiti Open. The 5950-metre par 72 course is also part of the Australian PGA Tour.
However, if you're lucky enough to make a trip to these paradise islands and you're a golfer, don't miss the opportunity to go and play at the antipodes, on these two courses at the end of the world.
